Passive Voice

Passive voice adalah suatu grammatical construction (bentuk gramatikal) dimana subject pada sentence (kalimat) atau clause (klausa) tidak melakukan aksi, melainkan menerima aksi atau ditindak lanjuti (receiver of action) oleh agent lain (doer of action) baik disebutkan ataupun tidak. 
Sebaliknya, pada konstruksi active, subject pada sentence atau clause berhubungan langsung dengan verb dengan bertindak sebagai pelaku aksi.
Satu ciri khas yang baku, bahwa passive voice digunakan untuk kalimat kerja aktif transitif. Bahasa mudahnya, kalimat yang menggunakan kata kerja (kata sifat, kata benda, dan kata keadaan tidak termasuk) dan juga kata kerjanya menggunakan objek (kata kerja transitif) yang biasanya berupa kata benda…contohnya melempar bola, menggunakan perahu, menanam padi, dsb.


Passive voice Simple Present Tense 
Objek + to be + V3(Past Participle Verb) + by + Subjek

  1. He reads a book
    The book is read by him
  2. They eat fried chicken
    Fried chicken are eaten by them
  3. The bottle hits the floor
    The floor is hit by the bottle
  4. You drink the beer and eat potatoes
    The beer and potatoes are drunk and eaten by you.
  5. I serve the passengers
    The passengers are served by me
  6. We write some letters
    Some letters are written by us
  7. She hates him
    He is hated by her
  8. The director and the managers leave the office
    The office are left by the director and the managers
  9. Mona’s car crash the small plants
    The small plants are crashed by Mona’s car
  10. Toni and Marta raise their children together
    Toni’s and Marta’s children are raised by them together.




Passive Voice Simple Past Tenses
Object of the active sentence + was/were + past participle form of the verb + by + subject of the active sentence


1.He wrote a letter.
    A letter was written by him.
2.They knew it.
    It was known to them.
3. She sang a song.
    A song was sung by her.
4. He loved his friends very much.
    His friends were loved very much by him.
5. She did not know anything about it.
     Nothing about it was known to her.
6. Nobody could discourage him from pursuing his path.
     He could not be discouraged from pursuing his path by anybody.
7. You did not listen to me.
    I was not listened to by you.
8. She did not write a story.
    A story was not written by her.
9. She wrote a letter.
    A letter was written by her.
10. He sang a song.
     A song was sung by him



Simple Future Tense
Object of the active sentence + will/shall + be + past participle form of the verb + by + subject of the active sentence

1. I will write a letter.
    A letter will be written by me.
2. She will help me.
    I will be helped by her.
3. John will learn the lesson.
    The lesson will be learnt by John.
4. She will not help us.
    We will not be helped by her.
5. We will not visit the hill station this year.
    The hill station will not be visited by us this year.
6. We shall not betray our country.
    Our country shall not be betrayed by us.
7. I will be paid next week.
8. You will be given a reading assignment in English.
9. They will be served by this waitress.
10. You will be taught some interesting new things in class next week.
